FHL is a house that provides intensive support to malnourished children. It also provides care to children with HIV. This house is not an orphanage in the true sense. To be admitted to the house, the child has to have somewhere to go when he is better. Often children are brought to orphanages in severe states of malnutrition and starvation.
Most orphanages do not have the time or expertise to handle these extremely ill children. FHL will then take these children in and attempt to build up their strength to as normal as possible. The child is then returned to the Orphanage who made the original referral. If the child is dropped off by a parent at the house, the family member is encouraged to continue contact with the child during the rehabilitation.
If possible, the family is encouraged to take the child back after he is better, which often requires nutritional support for the entire family.
